Floating Pregnancy Relaxation at Somerset Swim Babies

A warm, calm way to ease aches, settle your mind and feel lighter in late pregnancy

If you have reached the point in pregnancy where everything feels a little heavier, a little tighter, and a little more effort than it used to, you are not alone. It is completely normal for your body to ask for more comfort and more rest as your baby grows. One of the gentlest ways to find that comfort is through relaxed movement in warm water.

This is why I am so pleased to introduce Floating Pregnancy Relaxation, held at the beautifully warm Somerset Swim Babies pool near East Brent. The water there is heated for tiny babies, which makes it absolutely perfect for mums who want half an hour of true warmth, weightlessness and calm.

These 30 minute sessions are designed to help you unwind, ease aches and pains, and feel lighter in both your body and your mind. They are low impact, suitable throughout pregnancy, and you do not need to be a confident swimmer. The pool is shallow enough to stand, and every part of the session is gentle, guided and supportive.

Why warm water feels so good in pregnancy

One of the most magical things about water is the sense of relief it brings. The buoyancy eases pressure from your back, pelvis and joints. Many mums describe an instant feeling of space to breathe, move and simply be. For some, it is the first time in days they have felt truly comfortable.

Water supports your bump so the muscles that work hard all day finally get a break. This can reduce back pain, help you find a more natural posture and give your body a moment to reset.

The warmth also boosts circulation, which may help reduce swelling in hands, feet and legs. Gentle movement in warm water encourages blood flow, loosens tight muscles and helps your body let go of tension.

Better sleep, calmer evenings and more energy

One of the biggest changes mums notice after these sessions is sleep. The combination of warmth, floating, gentle stretching and slow breathing helps the body wind down, especially in the evening. Many mums say they drift off more easily and sleep more deeply after attending.

On the emotional side, time in water naturally lowers stress levels. Your breathing slows, your muscles soften and your mind begins to quieten. This helps reduce cortisol and can give you a real lift in energy once you step out.

Perfect if you are considering a waterbirth

If you are planning a waterbirth or thinking about using a pool during labour, these sessions are ideal. Being in warm water regularly helps your body and mind build positive, calm associations with the sensation of floating and the feeling of being held by the water.

Many mums tell me they feel more confident about labouring in a birth pool once they have spent time relaxing in water during pregnancy. They describe it as a familiar, safe and soothing environment that they look forward to returning to on the day.

Safe, low impact and suitable for all fitness levels

Floating Pregnancy Relaxation is very gentle. You can take everything at your own pace and you are always in control. Because the water supports your weight, it reduces strain on joints and lowers the risk of injury or soreness afterwards.

Water allows a greater freedom of movement than you might feel on land. You can rotate your hips with ease, lengthen your spine without pressure and enjoy stretches that simply feel better in warm water.

A space to switch off and connect

Pregnancy can be busy, overwhelming, emotional and full of to-do lists. Taking 30 minutes to float quietly, breathe deeply and let everything soften is incredibly grounding. These sessions are intentionally calm and peaceful. There is no rush, no noise and no pressure to do anything perfectly.

They are also a lovely chance to meet other mums locally. You will often find friendly chats before or after the session, which can be a gentle way to build connections during pregnancy.
