National Breastfeeding Week

It’s National Breastfeeding Week!
(1st-7th August 2025)

A time to support, celebrate, and share. 🌿

With my first, breastfeeding was nothing like I expected. I was recovering from an unplanned C-section, had very little support, and it took 3 days before I saw someone from the hospital’s infant feeding team. She was an absolute angel when she finally arrived, and we got there, but it was still a struggle.

My supply was affected by my section, and Rory lost 13% of his body weight, so we re-admitted to hospital. I was determined to make it work. For 6 weeks, I pumped for 40 minutes after every feed to boost my supply. Rory fed for ages, so some days it was just feed–pump–repeat, all day and night. It was exhausting, but I knew it was what I wanted.

On top of that, I navigated several bouts of mastitis, each one knocking me sideways. I wish I’d known then what I know now about what was causing that. Plus a Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy requiring me to eliminate all dairy from my diet.

After those first hard weeks, we went on to have a brilliant year of breastfeeding. With my second, it’s been a totally different story. When you know better, you do better. We’re now 8 months in and going strong.

Since then, I’ve trained as a breastfeeding peer supporter and now run a breastfeeding workshop as part of my antenatal classes. Giving parents the knowledge, tools, and support to get breastfeeding off to the best start.

Keep an eye out this week for some special breastfeeding facts and stats. And as always, please contact me if you have questions or need support.
